Organized on April 8, 1888, as the "Brooklyn Theatrical Progressive Union," Local No.4, IATSE, is one of the very first "Stagecraft" unions in America. In 1893, we united with, ten(10) other stagecraft organizations, from Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, and Pennsylvania, to found the "National Alliances of Theatrical Stage Employes "(N.A.T.S.E.). In 1902, the organization changed its name to, the "International Alliances of Theatrical Stage Employes"(I.A.T.S.E.), reflecting the orgainization's inclusion of Canadian locals.
